Senior Mechanical Engineer - £45K to £50K Car / Travel Allowance 1 day a week in the office

Reporting to the MEP Director as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you'll be responsible for designing energy-efficient buildings where HVAC services are easy to install and maintain.

You'll enjoy working on a range of projects such as schools, leisure facilities, super prime residential developments, hotels, assisted living facilities and commercial offices.

Uniquely, rather than only getting involved in RIBA Stages 2 -4, here you'll see projects through from RIBA Stages 2 all the way through RIBA Stage 6, with typical project values ranging from £1m to £10m in terms of MEP Services value.

Essential requirements

  • At least four years' experience as a Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineer.
  • Able to use Revit and Open Buildings Designer (previously known as Hevacomp) or IESVe.
  • Must currently live in the UK.

Please note, whilst this is almost a fully remote permanent role, individuals must be based in the UK and be willing to attend the office in Herefordshire once a week. Individuals who are based outside of the UK will not be considered.

    What a typical day will look like

    You'll use your HVAC design skills to review and approve external consultants designs and oversee projects from RIBA Stage 2 to Stage 7. You'll be responsible for managing specialist subcontractors, managing the design team and overseeing the commissioning process of the installed MEP services.

    Rather than just HVAC design, here you'll prepare specifications, approve technical drawings, carry out value engineering proposals of consultant's designs, carry out tender analysis and maintain relationships with manufacturers and external consultants.

    You'll split your time across multiple different landmark London developments such as hotels, commercial offices, retail stores, prime residential developments and leisure facilities.

    You'll attend these projects regularly (all in central London) and flag up any risks or potential delays to the Senior MEP Design Manager; and ensure projects are delivered on time and to budget.

    What you'll need to be considered for this MEP Design Manager role.

    • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or equivalent.
    • At least four years' experience in HVAC design.
    • Previous experience working on the latter RIBA stages, ideally experience working with contractors or developers.
    • Good communication skills; able to build rapport with clients and colleagues.
    • Able to manage time effectively as you will be overseeing 3 to 5 live projects at any one time.
    • Able to work in the UK without the need to be sponsored.

    This well-known and well-established Building Services Consultancy in Berkshire are looking for an additional Senior Mechanical (Building Services / HVAC) Design Engineer.

    Led by two friendly Directors (1 x M and 1 x E) they have created a collaborative and relaxed working environment. They operate a flat structure where Senior Engineers are left to get on with designing and delivering projects and are not bogged down with unnecessary office politics.

    Progression will be easy and straightforward and be based on client feedback; and your ability to deliver profitable projects. It doesn't matter if you are chartered or not, or if you have completed a degree. What is important is that you can pick up a project and run with it, keep clients informed and can work in a team of around 25 engineers to meet common goals.
